What difference can using Glove Clips in a hand safety program really make?

If you look at the industrial and construction industry's injury reports you see that the largest reported injury type on the job is hand injuries. Because there are so many incidents, hand injuries have a significant impact on medical bills, worker’s compensation, lost man hours and legal costs.

For this reason alone, any hand safety program that could be implemented to reduce hand injuries could have an outstanding result on a company’s bottom line.

Also, "Safe Tends to Beget Safe." In other words, if a safety program has an actual visible effect on safety in a work environment and workers can observe the results themselves. These same workers are more likely to take these measures to heart and be more aware of safety issues in other areas of their work. as in all aspects of business: success breeds success, and employees will "get on board" when they see a safety initiative work.

When you look at the statistics of hand injuries in the work environment a little closer you can see the fact that most hand injuries occur because employees try to do a job without wearing the proper gloves or take off their gloves in the middle of it.

The vast majority of jobs in the construction or industrial industries pose a threat to hands. Because of this companies provide the appropriate gloves for each specific job. When these gloves are utilized they significantly reduces the risk and severity of injuries. While no glove is perfect, when used they work.

Since companies do supply workers with the proper gloves for their job, hand injuries should be one of the least significant (in number of incidences and costs) type of injuries, but they are not. Hand injuries are one of the most significant. Why is this? Statistics reveal that most hand injuries are the result of wearing no gloves at all. Follow-up interviews with these workers show an array of reasons why they weren’t wearing the gloves they were provided. One set of reasons kept repeating: "I left my gloves at the last job site;" "I left my gloves in the truck;" "I don’t know where I left my gloves;" "I stuck them in my back pocket and when I got to the job site, one was gone." What conclusion can you gather from this information? Issuing the right glove is only part of the solution. Employees have to have the gloves they need with them when they need them. They are intelligent. They will wear the proper PPE if it is available to them. So, how do you keep workers from losing their gloves?

The solution is simple. It is a small tool called a Glove Clip. It is a special clip that has only one specific use, to hold on to gloves so that when they are needed they will be there. Some Glove Clips are designed to be attached to a belt loop or seam of your coveralls. Other Glove Clips are designed to be attached to a belt or harness. In either case, the opposite end is designed to grab hold of a pairs of gloves and not let go until they are needed. Studies have shown that with just the addition of glove clips into a hand safety program, hand injuries can be reduced by well over 80%.

And if saving money by reducing hand injuries is not enough to justify the ROI. Glove clips also save money on glove replacement costs. A significant percentage of a company's safety budget goes into replacing gloves that have been lost or misplaced on the job site. The use of Glove Clips in the workplace has been proven to reduce glove replacement costs by anywhere from 60% to 80%. Again, that is on top of the money already saved from reduced hand injuries.

The Glove Clips are a relatively new addition to the PPE arsenal, and already they are becoming a mainstay industrial and construction community. Glove Clips make a difference on the job, and for such a small investment there is a huge return.
